FANS of Coronation Street have called out a major element to the show that they claim needs to be updated to stop the soap from going under.

Die hard supporters of the show have claimed that they feel as though the writing on the ITV soap has fallen below par and is in desperate need of a refresh.

Fans feel as though the writing of the show has let it down

Some fans also called out Ed Bailey’s acting ability

Many have called on the show’s current executive producer Iain MacLeod to face the axe as well as the show’s current crop of writers too with many claiming storylines are not fully followed through.

One soap expert claimed: “Macleod needs to go, along with many others.”

A fellow fan agreed, adding who they would like to see come on board the show: “Yes and new writers too. Sally Wainwright would be a good choice. She wrote for the show in the late 90s and has created some brilliant shows (Happy Valley).”

A third fan pointed out how the show had spent money improving and bettering the set as opposed to focusing on the quality of the material: “They spend millions on the set, paying the actors, production equipment, so my guess is they can’t afford good storywriters.”

However the fans did not lay all the blame at the feet of the producers and writers as some argued that some of the actors on the show are simply not skilled enough to pull off big stories in the prime time show.

One viewer claimed: “I think Ed needs to go from the Baileys, they do have potential as a family.”

Another echoed those thoughts, adding: “Ed and Michael to go imo and then the Baileys will finally all be well acted. Yeah Simon and Summer are so expendable. I get he’s kind of a legacy character at this point but Sean going would be good too.”

The show has seen many high-profile stories as of late with most of them being dominated by the younger members of the cast.

Teenagers Summer and Aaron are the current faces of Coronation Street regarding their controversial surrogacy storyline as well as Max Turner and his dodgy dealing with the evil Griff.

Jacob Hay has also come to the forefront of the show following the arrival of his father Damon and the pressures it has put on his relationship with Amy.

The show is currently headed up by the younger cast including Max Turner
