CORONATION Street fans were delighted after two of the soap’s most iconic cast members reunited for the first time in more than 16 years.

Former cobbles legend Bruce Jones, who played layabout Les Battersby between 1997 – 2007, thrilled fans when he revealed he recently had an impromptu reunion with Hayley Cropper actress Julie Hesmondhalgh.

Bruce, now 70, took to Twitter to share a snap of his and Julie’s reunion – more than 16 years after they last saw each other.

Captioning a photo of them posing alongside each other, Bruce wrote: “So yesterday I bumped into this lovely lady @juliehes, it was great to see you after 16 years! #corrie @itvcorrie #hayley #les.”

Fans flocked to the comments section underneath the photo to share their delight at seeing the former on-screen enemies reunite.

One wrote: “A brilliant photo. We would never have seen Les and Hayley so friendly, of course.”

While another penned: “2 Corrie legends! Brilliant!”

A third added: “What a fantastic pic! 2 absolute legends!”

With a fourth gushed: “Lovely photo of you both.”

Bruce Jones and Julie – who played loveable cafe co-owner – are still often regarded as two of the soap’s most legendary stars and are currently featured heavily in ITV3’s rerun’s of classic Coronation Street.

The pair haven’t been seen together as their characters since Brice left the soap in 2007.

Julie starred on Corrie from 1998 and left in 2013, during which time she played the first transsexual character in a British soap opera.

It comes after HOAR revealed Bruce has landed his first role since he was axed from Corrie.

Bruce has signed a deal worth £20,000 to star in Beauty and the Beast this Christmas.

A source exclusively told HOAR Online: “Bruce hasn’t been on tour for ages but can’t wait to get back on the road.

“He’s being paid around £20k for the gig and he’s worth every penny – people can’t wait to see him live again!”
