CORONATION Street actress Paula Wilcox has revealed her delight in winding up soap fans over her character Elaine Jones’ current dalliance with serial killer Stephen Reid.
The bewildered pensioner has been lured in by the evil Stephen and has become besotted with him after being blinded by his wicked streak.

Despite her son Tim warning her over what he sees in Stephen, she has remained bound to her fiance’s every word.
Now actress Paula has revealed that she has taken pleasure in goading viewers of the ITV soap about Elaine and Stephen.
She confessed that she winds up her fans by insisting the character of Stephen is a good man.
Paula admitted: “They say things like, jokingly sometimes: ‘You want to stay away from that Stephen!’ And women say: ‘He’s so bad!’
“My reaction is just like Elaine’s would be: ‘Oh, he’s lovely! He’s a really nice man! He’s polite and kind. What’s the matter with you?’ So I put it right back on them.”
It led to Paula admitting that fans believe she is “stupid” after she played along to wind them up.
The star said fans think: “‘Gosh, this woman is really stupid!’
“It’s a great story and I was really pleased because I felt like it was something I could enjoy and get my teeth into. I really liked the idea of being involved.
“I thought it was really interesting because it was all happening very naturally.
“I’d heard about the story and thought it was simply fantastic that the audience knew this other side of him that nobody else on the Street knew.”
Elsewhere, Paula admitted that Stephen would never show Elaine his dark side as he has to keep her on side.
She said that Stephen has something to gain from Elaine being in the dark and therefore would never show a flare of his anger.
It comes as fans were recently left stunned to discover Paula’s real age.
The star is 72 and is only six years apart from her future mother-in-law on the show, Audrey.
