EMMERDALE fans predict potential return for Robert Sugden ahead of show’s 50th anniversary this autumn.

Robert – played by Ryan Hawley – was last seen on our screens in 2019 in court when he was sentenced to a minimum of 14 years in prison.

Robert pleaded guilty for murdering rapist Lee Posner

Fans think Robert may return for 50th anniversary in October

He pleaded guilty for murdering rapist Lee Posner who had previously sexually assaulted Victoria.

Robert was told he was being transferred to a prison on the Isle of Wight.

Robert decided not to tell Aaron when he visited him and held his husband tightly for the last time before breaking down in his cell.

But could there be a return on the cards for Robert?

Fans seem to think there may be a loophole to bring him back.

On Reddit, one fan said: “I remember they had that whole mini story of potentially getting Robert out of prison a bit earlier.

“Ethan shot it down but they can spin anything. Of course I don’t expect him back full time but maybe even seeing him for a conversation where they bring that back up again or something?”

Another said: “How bizarre I have also been wondering this recently! But unfortunately I do not see a loophole in a storyline in which he may return in such short notice.

“But he may be a surprise return in which have not been released to any spoiler outlets? Would be incredible to see especially as it wouldn’t be expected.”

Victoria’s plight to free Robert saw her meet with lawyer Ethan Anderson in The Woolpack, where he informed her that “the best she can hope for is that his sentence will be shortened”.

An optimistic Victoria replied: “Well, it’s worth it then,” to which Ethan said: “I’m talking as little as a few months. Whatever happens, Robert won’t be home anytime soon.”

Victoria then urged Ethan to submit an appeal, but Ethan encouraged Diane to try and make Victoria see sense as there is only “a slim chance” for a positive outcome.

Danny Miller’s return as Aaron has already been confirmed by the soap for the 50th anniversary this October.
