A FORMER EastEnders favourite has blasted the BBC soap for what they deem “far fetched” plotlines that “normalise violence.”

Cheryl Fergison, 57, who played Heather Trott for five years, fell victim to one such incidence of violence on-screen as her character was killed at the hands of Ben Mitchell.

A top ex EastEnders star has slammed the BBC soap for ‘far fetched’ storylines

Cheryl Fergison has accused the BBC soap of ‘normalising violence’

The actress, who left Albert Square in 2012, told Daily Star the BBC One show had become “ridiculous.”

She said: “I am not the morality police but I do think EastEnders has lost its way a little.

“I think people are craving for something more relatable and familiar rather than sensationalised.”

She added: “I remember when Arthur Fowler nicked the Christmas fund was big news.

“Now it is all about how many people can be stabbed or shot in the Square.

“I don’t think that’s the right image for soaps to give. I think it is normalising violence to younger people.”

The actress then revealed her desire “to educate people on sensitive storylines.”

Last month, Cheryl looked worlds away from her character as she stepped out for a day out.

The actress looked sensational as she attended the star-studded premiere of the new Dirty Dancing stage show.

Cheryl looked effortlessly chic as she wore a long flowing shirt above her classic black attire.

The former Celebrity Big Brother star flashed her infectious smile to the waiting cameras on the red carpet.

Since her soap stint, Cheryl has appeared in Celebrity Big Brother, David Walliams’ sitcom Big School and the BGT star’s Christmas drama Hansel and Gretel After Ever After.

EastEnders declined to comment.
