Brave recovery

Alys Davies, an eight-year-old dancer and avid Strictly fan, has defied the odds and returned to performing just ten weeks after losing her leg in a freak accident. Her limb was tragically trapped by her dad's ride-on lawnmower, leading to the amputation of her leg below the knee.

A miraculous turnaround

After being fitted with a prosthetic leg in August, Alys amazed doctors with her quick recovery. She wasted no time in getting back on her feet, using the prosthetic in both school and dance class.

From devastation to determination

Alys initially felt like a completely different person after the accident, but she now says she feels like a "normal kid" who just happens to have a different leg. Her parents, Dylan and Nia, have been incredibly supportive throughout her journey, with Nia believing that this experience will make Alys stronger rather than break her.

"My initial thought was, 'We've still got Alys — she's still with us'. Something from somewhere came and I thought, 'This has to be the making of her, not the breaking of her'," Nia said.

Looking ahead

Alys' determination and resilience have been truly inspiring, and she continues to pursue her passion for dance despite the challenges she has faced. Her story will be featured on Welsh TV channel S4C this Sunday, shedding light on her incredible journey.
