Strictly Come Dancing headed to Blackpool this week for its annual visit to the Northern seaside town. However, the episode was not without its fair share of controversy.
The "telling" comment
During the show, professional dancer Anton Du Beke made a comment about Angela Rippon's performance that sparked a heated debate among viewers. After Rippon's American Smooth dance in Blackpool's Tower Ballroom, Du Beke said, "I almost didn't really care how it went because I loved it so much." While some found his comment endearing, others saw it as a confirmation of the alleged fix that saved Rippon in the dance-off last week.
Viewers express their outrage
Angry viewers took to social media to share their dissatisfaction with the judges' treatment of Rippon. One Twitter user wrote, "@bbcstrictly No way @TheAntonDuBeke. Angela Rippon did not deserve an 8. She's made (fix) Blackpool. Now it's time to go. #StrictlyComeDancing." Another tweet read, "'I almost didn't care how it went' um. Fix allegations gain traction
Many viewers believed that Du Beke's comment confirmed their suspicions about a potential fix in Rippon's favor. One comment on social media stated, "Did Anton basically just admit they don't care what Angela R does, they love it anyway? #Strictly." Another viewer added, "The fact the judges are now only scoring Angela R fairly after they got her to Blackpool just screams fix me."
