Why did Tony Adams quit Strictly Come Dancing?

The former Gunners defender and his partner Katya Jones were set to compete with Tyler West and Dianne Buswell in a dance-off on Sunday night’s show.

But sadly the 56-year-old has had to pull out of the ITV competition after picking up an injury during Saturday night’s performance.

His decision to quit Strictly was announced by host Tess Daly on Sunday evening (November 13).

Tess explained to viewers: “Due to an injury sustained on Saturday night, Tony is unable to take part in the dance-off and has decided to withdraw from the competition.

This means there will be no dance-off tonight and Tyler and Dianne are through to Blackpool.”

Tony suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday night’s show.

Adams ended up in the dance-off after failing to impress the judges with a jive to Land Of 1,000 Dances by Wilson Pickett.

The dance earned him just 24 points and placed him at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Taking to social media to explain his decision to quit the show, Adams said: “There comes a point when you can no longer ignore medical advice, and very sadly my point came tonight.

“Sorry I couldn’t dance off against my friend @TylerWestt, but thank you thank you to ALL @bbcstrictly who made this into an unbelievable joyful, tough and exhilarating 8 weeks.

“I will miss you all. And, well I have no words for @Mrs_katjones.

“She is my absolute rock, queen, nemesis, HERO. I love her to bits. Keep dancing. Tomorrow I’ll be getting the leaf blower out and back to normality. With sequins.

What has Katya Jones said about Tony Adams quitting Strictly Come Dancing?

On Sunday, November 13, Jones wrote on Twitter: “Oh @TonyAdams! You came into this show to deliver an important message.

“By throwing yourself into this wild experience, totally surrendering to it, by showing up every single day and doing your absolute best – you connected and resonated with so many people at homes.

“You inspired them, you entertained them, you gave them hope and without a doubt saved lives. You can walk away and proudly say that your mission is complete!”

Jones continued: “I don’t think you were prepared for what it will turn into for yourself. Seeing you challenge yourself day in, day out, overcome fears, open up, evolve and grow as a human has been beautiful to witness.

“To see you learn, become a dancer & enjoy it (eventually) made me very happy.”
