This year, Children In Need is hosting a unique fundraising event called Game On. The two-hour show will feature various gaming YouTubers and streamers playing games for charity. We had the opportunity to sit down with one of the hosts, Steffan Powell, to discuss the show and the positive impact of gaming.

A Celebration of Gaming Culture

Powell, the former BBC gaming correspondent, explained that Game On is a way to bring together different aspects of gaming culture while highlighting the positive influence it can have. By showcasing a variety of games and genres, the show aims to unite gamers and demonstrate the importance of gaming as a part of modern British culture.

The Power of Games

In addition to raising funds for charity, Game On aims to show the wider culture the value of gaming. Powell emphasized that gaming brings people together and can provide solace for those who may be struggling. By featuring the energy, passion, and fun of gaming, the show hopes to change any negative perceptions and showcase the positive impact games can have.

Exciting Guests and Games

Game On will feature numerous guests, including popular streamers and content creators. Powell highlighted three guests in particular: Harry Pinero, Yung Filly, and Elz the witch, who will be racing F1 cars together. Additionally, football fans will recognize Bayo Akinfenwa, known as the strongest man in FIFA, who will also be joining the show. The program will showcase a range of games, from Mario Kart to Call of Duty, as well as lesser-known titles like Hado, a mixed reality game similar to VR/AR Dodgeball.

Personal Gaming Favorites

When asked about his own gaming preferences, Powell mentioned a long list of highly anticipated games from this year, including Hogwarts Legacy, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk, Starfield, and Assassin's Creed Mirage. He also expressed excitement for the new iteration of Warzone and shared that he has been enjoying Starfield as a meditative experience.

Game On will be broadcast live on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 7pm.
