IT’S only been out for just over a week, but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s competitive scene is already heating up.
While the lack of Hardcore mode and Combat Record has been a disappointment to most players, it’s given people time to find out which weapons are best for them.
LMGs aren’t popular but this is a strong choice.
Skilled players can make any gun work for them, but it’s always helpful to know which is the best of each type.

Best assault rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
CoD:MW2 has let players start out strong, as the starting assault rifle is actually one of the best.
The M4 is a solid choice, and there is a long list of attachments which will help you with long-range gunplay.
If you feel you want to move on from the starting rifle, aim for the Kastov 762 for an even stronger selection.
Best battle rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
If you want to build a powerful battle rifle, you should unlock the FTAC Recon as soon as possible.
Use attachments to minimise the amount of recoil you feel, and you will also be able to use it to pick enemies off from a distance.
Best SMG in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
The best SMG is another that’s available right from the start in the FSS Hurricane.
This is a fantastic subby for running and gunning, and it has a decent range for semi-far-off kills.
You can have a slighter faster fire rate and TTK, at the cost of lower long-range accuracy with the Vel 46.
Best shotgun in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Shotguns give you one kill per shot as a rule, and trying to hit enemies at range is largely ineffective.
The Bryson 890 is a good counter to this, as when loaded with the right attachments it increases its long-distance damage.
Best LMG in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
LMG’s are one of the less popular weapons as they force you to sacrifice your speed.
Whether you ‘spray and pray’ or try to aim for the kill, the RPK is the LMG to choose.
Compensate for the recoil with the right attachments, especially if you’re using it with a long-range scope.
Best marksman rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Marksman rifles are some of the best weapons in CoD:MW2, and the bolt-action SP-R 208 is ideal for CoD:MW2 multiplayer.
When aimed at an enemy’s upper half, there is a good chance to take them down in one shot.
Best sniper rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
We’re not the only ones who recommend the MCPR-300, as plenty of people are using this one.
It’s a powerful one-shot rifle, and while it’s bolt action, if your first shot was clean, that’s all you need.
If you want an alternative, then give the SP-X 80 a whirl.
