EA FC 24 Fans Outraged by Costly In-Game Item

Players of EA FC 24 are expressing their frustration as they uncover the eye-watering price of the game's most expensive item.

Microtransaction Sparks Disappointment

With EA FC 24 already priced at £70, it's no wonder players are feeling let down by this exorbitant microtransaction.

The Elite Season Opener Pack, available in the game's store, is priced at a staggering 285,000 Ultimate Team coins or 3,000 FC Points.

In-Game Currency Conundrum

In EA FC 24, Ultimate Team coins serve as the primary in-game currency, earned through gameplay, pack openings, and player trading.

On the other hand, FC Points, the game's premium currency, can be purchased with real money, costing around £30 for 3,000 points.

However, FC Points are only sold in bundles that often don't match the exact price of items in the store, creating a dilemma for players.

To purchase the Elite Season Opener Pack for 3,000 FC Points, players may need to spend as much as £40 to acquire 5,900 FC Points.

Alternatively, they can pay £32 for a bundle of 1,600 and 2,800 points, but they will be left with 1,400 FC Points after the purchase.

Controversy Over In-Game Items

While the Elite Season Opener Pack offers powerful items to justify its price, it has stirred up further controversy.

Inside the pack, players can find:

  • 45 Rare Gold players rated 80 or higher
  • 1 of 2 Player Pick Loan Base Hero rated 87 or higher
  • 1 of 2 Player Pick Loan Base Hero rated 88 or higher

While this may seem like a promising addition to a team, it has fueled criticism that the game is "pay-to-win".

Early Acquisition Advantage

What sets this pack apart is that previous FIFA games have rarely offered such overpowered packs so early after the game's release.

Players who purchase the Elite Season Opener Pack could gain an unfair advantage right from the start, which many consider to be unjust.

Those who cannot afford the costly pack or simply do not wish to spend an additional £30 on top of the already hefty £70 price tag will have to invest a significant amount of time to have a chance at obtaining top-level players.

Uncertain Outcomes for Buyers

Although the Elite Season Opener Pack does increase the chances of acquiring the best cards, there is no guarantee of success.

Paying players may end up with duplicate cards or an abundance of lower-rated items, as well as the disappointment of finding out that the received items cannot be traded.

EA Sports in the Hot Seat

EA Sports has faced criticism in the past for selling what can essentially be described as loot boxes within its games.

The company continued to sell FUT packs in FIFA 23, even after the UK government opted not to regulate the system.

Other countries, such as Belgium, have gone as far as making loot boxes illegal due to their resemblance to gambling.
