FIFA fans think they know who the EA Sports FC cover star will be – and it’s not Kylian Mbappé

EA Sports is preparing to release its new series of football games following its divorce from FIFA.

The FIFA 23 developer had a very public falling out with the footballing organisation, apparently over a licensing dispute.

Haaland has had a record-breaking season.

FIFA reportedly wanted $1billion (£800million) to use its name and branding on the cover.

The gaming company decided instead to go its own way, and has announced that the FIFA series will be rebranded as EA Sports FC.

A couple of details have been announced about EA Sports FC, such as partnerships and logos.

There are also plenty of details we can reasonably guess, like that it will be released near the end of September, and contain most, if not all, of the same teams and players we have in the FIFA games.

Smaller details, such as who will be on the cover, are yet to be announced.

For the last three years, Paris-Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappé has taken pride of place on the cover.

However, fans believe that he will step aside for the upcoming cover giving way for another superstar.

FIFA fans predict that Manchester City’s Erling Haaland will be this year’s cover star, likely owing to his record-breaking year.

In May, Haaland broke the record for the most goals scored in one season in the Premier League with 36.

He was also voted as the twelfth man for FIFA 23’s Team of the Year.

Haaland would grace the cover of the Standard Edition if this is true, while the Ultimate Edition will likely feature more than one player.

Last year, both Kylian Mbappé and Chelsea’s Sam Kerr were on the cover, making people believe there will be women players on the cover once more.

The Standard Edition cover star will likely still appear on the Ultimate Edition cover, but will be featured alongside a partner or partners.
