FIFA President Gianni Infantino has revealed that an announcement of a new FIFA series of games to rival EA Sports FC will be coming soon.

FIFA and game developer EA Sports had a very public divorce last year over licensing fees.

The FIFA series will continue on as EA Sports FC.

It was reported that FIFA wanted $1billion (£830million) for EA Sports to continue using the FIFA name on its series of football games.

EA Sports refused, and announced that it would continue to develop the series under the name EA Sports FC.

FIFA announced that it would continue the FIFA series with a new developer, but nothing about this has been revealed so far.

In contrast, EA Sports has been announcing small details about its upcoming game.

Lead gameplay developer of the FIFA series Sam Kovalev told GLHF: “I know that each year we come up with additional things on the gameplay side, but we’re not redefining the game.”

Infantino was recently re-elected as president of FIFA, and has details about FIFA’s new series in his coronation speech.

He said: “The new FIFA game – the FIFA 25, 26, 27 and so on – will always be the best egame for any girl or boy. We will have news on this very soon.”

This could mean that FIFA intends to skip a release this year, as that would be FIFA 24.

FIFA has invested in a number of metaverse projects over the last 12 months, which people believed was their alternative to EA Sports FC.

However, it seems the FIFA game will be a full football game like the series has been until last year.

The choice to use the term ‘egame’ over game makes it seem like the new series will be an online title, such as free-to-play.

It could also possibly add in metaverse elements, as shown by FIFA’s recent investments.
