Fans and players are divided over a major change introduced in the popular football game, EA Sports FC 24.
Women players join men in Ultimate Team
For the first time ever, EA Sports FC 24 allows women players to join the men's side in the Ultimate Team mode.
Arsenal legend and EA Sports FC Ambassador Ian Wright has expressed his opinion on this controversial change.
Ian Wright embraces the change
Wright enthusiastically states: "Boys and girls play up to the age of 12 and they’re not fussed about that, in a game you know, men and women can play in the icons team. I’m gonna have some of the girls in my [Ultimate] Team."
Wright is pleased with the addition of women players, including those from NWSL, WSL, Liga F, and Frauen-Bundesliga.
He says: "It’s a beautiful thing, football is for everybody, so it’s great to see that it’s finally being recognized on this level."
Wright's former clubmate and longtime friend Kelly Smith is the first female Icon in the game.
Positive impact on the game
Wright is proud of the advancements made and mentions iconic players such as Marta and Mia Hamm. He believes this change benefits the game and its players.
Wright suggests including quality players like Lauren James, Lauren Hemp, Chloe Kelly, and Leah Williamson from the Lionesses in your team.
'Negative' haters criticized
However, not everyone shares Wright's positive view. Some players have expressed their opposition to mixed-gender teams in FC 24.
Wright advises: "Try not to take notice of people like that, because they’re not really the people you want to reach. The fact is, we've got to stop putting emphasis on those negative people."
He believes it's important to focus on the beauty of the change and the overall impact it will have on the game.
Welcome reception from players
Many players have embraced the inclusion of women players, although Ada Hegerberg's removal has disappointed some.
