Nintendo Switch Owners Shocked by Game’s Storage Space Consumption

Many Nintendo Switch owners are surprised by the amount of storage space a particular game is taking up on their consoles. The Nintendo Switch is not known for its expansive storage capabilities, with the Switch OLED offering less than 64GB of storage and other models offering less than 32GB. This limited storage capacity makes it challenging for the console to handle large modern games.

Developers often reduce the size of their games to ensure compatibility with all Nintendo Switch models. However, this reduction in size can sometimes result in issues. One recent release, Mortal Kombat 1, has been a prime example of this problem.

Downgraded Graphics and Other Issues

While Mortal Kombat 1 has been successful on other platforms, many players claim that the Switch version is virtually unplayable. The graphics are noticeably downgraded compared to other versions, and the game experiences bugs and crashes on the console.

Since the release, developers have been working tirelessly to address these issues. They have recently released a patch that promises numerous fixes for Switch players. However, some players have encountered a new problem: the size of the patch is taking up a significant amount of their console's storage.

Patch Size Concerns

According to reports, the patch can be as large as 27.4GB. This size is almost equivalent to the entire internal storage capacity of the original Switch and Switch Lite models. It is unclear why the patch size is so substantial for some players while others experience a smaller install size.

Despite these concerns, the overall install size for Mortal Kombat 1 remains quite large, exceeding 36GB. This is a significant amount of space for a console with limited storage options.

External Storage and Gameplay Improvements

While there are external storage options available for the Nintendo Switch, adding significant storage just for one game may not be an ideal solution for many players. Nevertheless, the patch has reportedly improved gameplay, providing some consolation for those who purchased Mortal Kombat 1.
