Production Pause

PlayStation, a major player in the home console market, has reportedly halted production on the PS VR2 following a disastrous launch that left unsold inventory.

Disappointing Sales

Sony's announcement to produce 2 million units of the PS VR2 ahead of its launch in February 2023 did not meet expectations, with less than 300k units sold by the end of March.

Competitive Market

Compared to other popular VR headset brands like Meta Quest, the PS VR2 falls short in sales due to its requirement of a PS5 and a cable connection to the console at all times.

Financial Impact

The high price point of the PS VR2, selling for more than the PS5 console it connects to, may have contributed to the recent closure of PlayStation's London Studio, which was focused on VR game development.
