PS5 users discover tricks to extend DualSense controller battery life

PS5 owners who find themselves constantly running out of battery on their DualSense controllers may benefit from three helpful tricks.

Switch off automatically

If you frequently forget to turn off your DualSense controller, the battery will drain. To avoid this, you can set a time-out on the controller so that it automatically turns off when inactive. Navigate to Settings > System > Power Saving and set the timer to 10 minutes. Alternatively, you can manually turn off the controller by holding down the PS button for 10 seconds.

Auto-mute microphone

The DualSense controller comes with a built-in microphone for in-game chatting. By default, this feature consumes battery life. To conserve power, you can turn off the microphone by pressing the LED bar below the PS button until it turns orange. Moreover, you can set the microphone to automatically mute when you turn on your console by going to your PS5 sound settings and selecting the "mute when logged in" option.

Haptic feedback

The DualSense controller's haptic feedback is a standout feature. However, it draws more power from the battery when active. In addition, certain games, such as first-person shooter multiplayer matches, may require heightened focus and speed, making haptic feedback distracting. Consider reducing the intensity of the haptic feedback or turning it off entirely to extend battery life. You can access these settings by navigating to Control Center > Accessories > DualSense Wireless Controller > Controller Settings > Vibration Intensity / Trigger Effect Intensity. If you change your mind, you can easily revert to the previous settings.
