X FACTOR: Celebrity fans were left howling on Saturday night after Trystar singer Thom Evans branded Louis Walsh “Simon’s backing singer”.

Rugby player Thom put Louis firmly in his place after the Irish music manager delivered a scathing review of his performance on the ITV show.

Louis Walsh was left stunned when he was slammed by Trystar’s Thom Evans

Simon revealed that Trystar, also made up of Ben Foden, 34, and Bath United player Levi Davis, 21, had been forced to change their song at the last minute and performed Blackstreet’s 1996 hit No Diggity instead.

But Louis wasn’t impressed by the switch, and reminded head honcho Simon Cowell that they had already sang the track at the audition stage of the competition.

He then ended his feedback on a cutting dig, telling Levi: “Levi, you are an amazing, amazing soul singer. And your backing singers – they are OK”.

His comment hung in the air and after Nicole Sherzinger praised the sports stars, presenter Dermot O’Leary asked the lads what they thought of the feedback.

Thom grabbed the mic first and said: “Louis I just want to say, with all due respect, you’ve been a backing singer to Simon for most of your life, so…”

Simon was so shocked by Thom’s comments that he stood up and clapped.

And viewers were in stitches at home, as one said: “Thom Evans just totally destroyed Louis Walsh”

Another tweeted: “Too right Thom! Way to put Louis in his place”

Thom added afterwards: “To be serious though Louis is right, Levi has got an amazing voice. It’s a pleasure to perform on the stage with him.

“But we are rugby players and we all hustle together.”

And Levi added: “And we all have a place in the band. (Thom) is the looks, Ben’s the logistics. In all fairness we have so much fun up here, that’s all we can ask for.”
