The five best games that take place during Christmas

ALMOST everyone has their favourite selection of Christmasy movies that they watch each holiday season, but they rarely think about Christmas games.

But, games can be just as jolly as their movie counterparts, even more so when played with friends.

There are plenty of games that take place in December to put you in the Christmas mood.

Here are our favourite games to play around the holiday season.

Batman: Arkham Origins

Batman is no stranger to fighting crime during the holiday season, and Arkham Origins is no exception.

Not only is it an excellent Batman game, but the whole story takes place over the course of Christmas Eve.

It’s not exactly pumping with Christmas cheer, but there is certainly enough of an atmosphere to call it a holiday game.

It gives a typical downbeat Gotham, and gives it a festive twist.

Super Mario Odyssey

We’re not sure when Super Mario Odyssey takes place, but one of its many worlds is a gorgeous snowscape.

Take part in endless winter activities like snow races, and watch round polar bears bounce around in cute winter gear.

Not only does Mario Odyssey fit the snowy theme, but it’s a great family game for everyone to gather around and play.

If being with your family isn’t the true meaning of the holidays, then why do we let grandpa steal all the Yorkshire puddings.

Bayonetta 2

This one is certainly less family friendly; much like Die Hard, it takes place during the Christmas period.

Bayonetta spends almost the whole game fighting against angels, which goes against the season’s theme, but her heart is in the right place.

She literally travels to the end of the Earth in order to save her best/girlfriend, Jeanne, and meets up with her estranged parents.

If introducing your parents to your new partner doesn’t scream Christmas, I don’t know what does.

Bully

Bully will remind you of what it’s like to be a child waking up on Christmas Day, which is the closest we’ll ever be again.

While our protagonist is probably on Santa’s naughty list, rather than the nice one, it doesn’t mean he can’t enjoy Christmas.

In the third chapter December 25 rolls around, and Jimmy gets to play in the snow as he torments the other children.

It’s one of the few times in the game where you aren’t given a time limit, so you are free to open your presents and explore Bullworth in all its festive glory.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

It seems that superheroes enjoy the holiday season just as much as us normal folk, as Miles Morales makes the second crime fighter on our list.

As Spider-Man leads a double life, you get to see two sides of Christmas.

There’s Miles Morales, who visits his family to share presents and festive cheer.

And then there’s Spider-Man, who swings through a New York city covered head to toe in snow.
