A DANCING on Ice star has revealed what it’s really like backstage ahead of the gripping semi-finals.

The hit ITV show – which launched last January with some of Britain’s biggest TV stars – will soon be crowning its 2023 Dancing on Ice winner.

With just weeks to go before one lucky star will lift the trophy, the atmosphere behind the scenes is more nerve-wracking than ever.

Skate pro Matt Evers said: “I can’t quite believe we’re at the semi-finals this weekend.

“The atmosphere is definitely more intense.

“Normally you see a real forerunner but now we don’t.”

The level of talent has been exceptionally high this year, leaving viewers unsure of who will take home the trophy.

Matt explained: “You have the popularity of Joey and Mollie, the extreme skating skills of Nile, Le Vivienne and Carley.”

He adds in Best: “That is just the leaderboard percolating around right now. Watch this space.”

While Team GB star Nile Wilson dazzled the judges on Dancing on Ice with his fancy footwork, another contender is the secret underdog who could even win the show.

Former TOWIE legend Joey Essex has left his co-stars stunned by just how talented he is on the ice led by stunning co-star Vanessa Bauer.

“Joey Essex has surprised me,” said Matt, after he was ‘doing tricks we see half-way through the series’ much earlier on.

Matt, who made history in the show’s first same-sex couple, praised Joey for being such a gent.

Matt, who was partnered up with EastEnders legend Patsy Palmer, said: “Knowing him from TOWIE, I expected him to embody that cheeky chappy persona. But he doesn’t. He comes into work. He’s very cordial, ‘Good morning, how are you?’ and gets on with it.

“And Joey and Vanessa’s routine was great.”
