Ant and Dec, the beloved hosts of I’m A Celebrity, hit back against fan complaints with a cheeky comment on the show last night. The Geordie duo faced criticism from viewers for mocking Sunderland during the opening episode. However, they decided to poke fun at their rival football city once again during Tuesday’s installment.

A Cheeky Comment

During a discussion about the upcoming Bushtucker Trial, The Misery Hotel, Dec mentioned that he had been on a “misery holiday” in the past. Ant, intrigued, asked him what made it so miserable. Dec responded with a playful jab, saying, “It was a week in Sunderland!” He quickly added, “It’s just a joke! Don’t at me, don’t at me, it’s just a joke.”

Viewer Reactions

Not all viewers found the comment amusing. Some took to social media to express their disappointment. One viewer tweeted, “Poor taste doing a Sunderland joke. Shouldn’t kick them when they’re down.” Another wrote, “Sunderland gags wearing a bit thin now boys, need some new material #ImACeleb #antanddec.” The show received over 100 complaints to the TV regulator after making a similar comment about Sunderland in the first week of the series.

What’s Next?

I’m A Celebrity continues tonight at 9pm on ITV. Will Ant and Dec continue their playful banter? Tune in to find out!
