AXED Paul Burrell has taken a swipe at his former I’m A Celeb co-stars after leaving the jungle for a second time.

The royal butler was among the famous faces and ex I’m A Celebrity contestants who returned to compete in the all-star edition of the reality series.

Paul Burrell left the I’m A Celeb South Africa camp on Thursday night after returning to the ITV show
Paul, top row centre, said he didn’t make friends in the TV jungle in 2004

During Thursday’s episode, viewers saw Paul and TV presenter Carol Vorderman sent home after giggling their way through their final trial in a head-to-head battle with their co-stars.

Speaking after leaving the show, Paul, 64, said: “I wanted to go out with a smile. I wanted to go out on a high note. And I did because I left with Carol Vorderman.

“We scaled this wall and it was a case of innuendo bingo! Ant and Dec were in hysterics. It was seaside humour. That’s what this whole show was about, having fun and we had fun.

“It was a rollercoaster of a ride at times and there were ups and downs of course. But at the end of the day, looking back on it, we had fun and made memories of a lifetime.”

Paul admitted the jungle was less of a laugh the first time around, when he shared his camp in 2004 with Joe Pasquale, who won it that year, Janet Street-Porter, Vic Reeves, and pop stars Natalie Appleton, Brian Harvey.

“I know it’s a cliché, campmates always say ‘I made friends of a lifetime on this show’.

“I didn’t the first time round,” Paul said.

He added: “I didn’t. But this time was totally different. We bonded as a big family.”

Paul brought some much-needed laughter to the ITV show after faves Dean Gaffney and Helen Flanagan were axed on Wednesday after failing their challenge.

Fans were then in hysterics as Paul screamed his way through his final trial.

Meanwhile, I’m A Celeb bosses are throwing another huge twist at its South Africa campmates when every single star from the series will return to camp for one final horror trial.

It means former I’m a Celeb rivals will come to face to face in the Kruger National Park setting to pick over the experience and settle scores – and face one last trial from Ant and Dec.

I’m A Celebrity…South Africa! continues on ITV1 and ITVX.
