Thousands of Brits to Receive Cold Weather Payments

Households in 15 additional postcodes across the UK are now eligible to receive £25 of free cash to help heat their homes, bringing the total number of eligible areas to over 100. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is providing the extra cash to households on low incomes during each seven-day period of low temperatures from now until March 31. The payments are made automatically and do not require an application.

Eligibility for Cold Weather Payments

Households are eligible for the extra cash if they are receiving Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Income Support, Income-based jobseeker’s allowance, Income-related employment and support allowance, Support for mortgage interest, or other specific criteria. These criteria include having a disability or receiving a pension premium, having a disabled child, receiving child tax credit with a disability element, or having a severe or enhanced disability premium. More information on eligibility can be found on the government’s website.

Payments Made Directly into Bank Accounts

Those eligible for the cold weather payments will have the cash paid directly into their bank accounts within 14 days of the payments being triggered. This includes recipients of Universal Credit and pension credit. The payments do not affect any other benefits that individuals may be receiving.

How to Contact for Missing Payments

If you believe you are eligible for the cold weather payment but have not received it, you can contact your pension centre or Jobcentre Plus office, or call the Universal Credit helpline. If you are receiving Universal Credit, you can also sign in to your account and add a note to your journal.
