Get Outdoors and Explore

Kids can use trees in various ways to keep their minds active. Try making leaf or bark rubbings by placing them on cardboard and rubbing a crayon over them. You can also collect leaves and learn the names of different trees. If you're in the woods, get creative and build a den using sticks and logs.

Maths Made Fun

Turn a box of dominos into an educational game. For younger children, tape the tiles to paper and have them count and write the number of spots. Older children can multiply the sides of the tiles and write the answer. If you don't have dominos, draw out different tiles instead.

Create Your Own Jigsaw

Let your kids get artsy by making their own jigsaw puzzles. Find free coloring templates online and have them color them in. Cut the pictures into simple squares and mix up the pieces to create a jigsaw. Older kids can even draw their own interlocking puzzle pieces.

Become a Budding Chef

Bring out the chef in your little ones by making flapjacks together. There are plenty of free recipes available online to choose from. One we recommend is by Annabel Karmel at AnnabelKarmel.com/recipes/flapjacks.

Map Your Adventure

Create a map of your neighborhood or local area. Draw the roads around your home or have the kids hide treasure and draw a map with an X marking the spot. This activity can be adapted depending on the age group.

All ideas presented here are affordable and easy to do. Keep your kids engaged and entertained this summer without spending a fortune.
