Thousands of households can apply for up to £220 free cash direct to bank accounts NOW – do you qualify?

THOUSANDS of households can apply for £220 free cash that will land directly into their bank accounts. The money comes via the Household Support Fund (HSF), which is worth £842 million.

How to Qualify for the £220 Cash

The pot of money has come from the government, which has shared it between councils in England. They then decide how to distribute their share – some are offering out vouchers while others are making direct cash bank transfers.

In Cambridgeshire, those who are eligible can get £110 paid into their bank account twice a year. They can also get it in the form of vouchers to help cover essentials such as food or energy. Eligibility and how much you get will be based on your income and spending. You don't need to be on benefits in order to qualify.

The scheme is open until March 2024 and residents can apply via the council website.

Other Help Available

Other help is on offer if you're not eligible for the HSF scheme. The income levels you must be at to qualify vary depending on your circumstances.

For example, if you are a single adult living alone, with no children, you must be earning less than £24,876 a year to qualify for help. Or, if you are a couple applying and have two children, you must be earning, combined, less than £42,418 a year. Eligibility varies depending on whether you are paid monthly or weekly too. You should check out Cambridgeshire Council's website for further details.

Who is Eligible?

You will be eligible for the £110 payment if you meet a list of criteria. You must:

  • currently live in Cambridgeshire
  • have £16,000 or less in money, savings, and investments
  • have income levels under a certain amount
  • have not applied to the HSF within the last three months

What if I'm Not Eligible?

Millions are also in line to receive cost of living payments worth up to £1,350. The first installment of the £900 payment has been paid to millions on certain benefits, including Universal Credit and Pension Credit.

Plus, pensioners who are entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2023/24 will get an extra £150 or £300 paid on top of their normal payment from November this year. You will be eligible for a Winter Fuel Payment this winter if you were born before September 25, 1957.

Those eligible for the payment will receive a letter in October and November telling them how much money to expect. There's a one-off fuel voucher from your energy supplier if you're on a prepayment meter.
