Heartbreaking Decision

A much-loved jewellery shop in Bargoed, Wales, has left customers devastated after announcing its closure in a matter of weeks. Gus Jones Jewellers, a popular local establishment, will be taking its final orders at the "beginning" of March.

Rising Costs and Falling Footfall

Based on Hanbury Road, the shop has decided to close after 120 years of service due to rising costs and falling footfall. The closure was described as a "very difficult" and "emotional decision" by the shop in a public post on its Facebook Page.

Community Loss

Loyal shoppers were saddened by the news, with one person describing it as "one of the biggest losses" for the community. Another customer shared how the shop had gone above and beyond to accommodate their needs, saying "Gutting! Just bought my wedding ring from there, they went above and beyond to get it early for me."

Call for Support

One devastated customer even called for incentives to be put in place to "entice more footfall" and "soften the blow of rising costs for businesses" in Bargoed.

Wide Range of Services

Gus Jones Jewellers is known for stocking leading brands of giftware and jewellery. They also offer watch and jewellery repairs, as well as jewellery valuations and insurance services. The shop has branches across south Wales, with the next closest store for customers being in Blackwood – less than a 10 minute drive away.

End of an Era

This closure comes just a month after another beloved jewellers closed forever after 188 years. The family-run business in another town shut its doors just days before Christmas, marking the end of an era. Similarly, a family jeweller in Warwick town centre closed after being open for more than 40 years, leaving locals saddened.
