Santa's sweets undergo shrinkflation

It seems even Santa isn't safe from shrinkflation, as tubs of our beloved Christmas treats become more expensive while the contents decrease in size. Big boxes of chocolates like Celebrations, Heroes, and Roses have long been a seasonal favorite on supermarket shelves. However, the weights have gone down from 650g to 600g, while the costs have increased compared to last year.

Putting the chocolate treat tubs to the test

To determine which brand offers the best value for money this Christmas, Laura Trott headed to Sainsbury's to compare the contents of eight popular tubs of chocolates. She also rated them out of five.

Ferrero Collection: The most expensive per chocolate

With a smaller box weighing just 135g, it's no surprise that the Ferrero Collection came out as the most expensive per chocolate. However, the contents are relatively generous for its size.

Cadbury Heroes: Plenty of variety but may cause disagreements

The Cadbury Heroes box contains 61 treats, offering plenty of variety. However, favorites like Creme Eggs may cause some disagreements among chocolate lovers.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Chunks Tin: Generous-sized but not budget-friendly

Packed with 70 chunks of Cadbury favorites, the Dairy Milk Chunks Tin is a generous-sized tin. However, at 17p per bite, it may not be the most budget-friendly option.

Swizzels Sweet Shop Favourites: The best value for money

The Swizzels Sweet Shop Favourites tub is overflowing with treats, offering the most contents to share around. It includes a variety of nostalgic confectionery for all ages, making it the best value for money.

Celebrations Choc Tub: A classic go-to for Christmas

The Celebrations Choc Tub is a classic go-to for many families during Christmas. It offers a good amount of mini Galaxys, Snickers, and Milky Ways, but Twix fans may be disappointed.

Quality Street Tub: A decent-sized tub with extra surprises

The Quality Street Tub is a decent-sized option that offers a higher number of treats. It includes plenty of Toffee Fingers but only four Green Triangles. Additionally, three extra miscellaneous chocolates were included.

Lindt Lindor Assorted Tin: A premium but pricey option

The Lindt Lindor Assorted Tin is a premium choice with a beautiful tin design. However, each chocolate inside comes at a steep price of 42p. Dark chocolate fans may also be disappointed by the limited selection.

Roses: A classic but poor value for money

A box of Cadbury's Roses is a classic Christmas offering, but the small tub and low contents make it a poor value for money. Unwrapping each chocolate comes at a costly price of 10p.
