Empty Outlet May Be Replaced
A popular national coffee chain, Costa Coffee, could be returning to the picturesque town of Ludlow in Shropshire after its outlet closed last year. The company did not provide a reason for the closure, but developers are now eyeing a vacant plot near a supermarket for a potential new store. The location, which had initially been planned for a petrol station, may now include a hot drink drive-through. More details are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks when a full planning application is submitted.
Positive Response from Local Councillors
Local councillors in Ludlow have expressed support for the proposed plan. Ludlow East councillor Tracey Huffer believes a coffee retailer would be a good fit for the location, especially for residents in the nearby areas of Rocks Green and Henley Grange. Councillor Andy Boddington of Ludlow North agrees, stating that the original plan for a petrol station was unnecessary for the town.
Challenges Faced by the Coffee Chain
Costa Coffee has faced challenges in recent months, resulting in the closure of several branches across the country. The cost of living and reduced spending on eating out due to the pandemic have affected the food and drink industry as a whole. Many businesses, including well-known chains like Wetherspoons and Frankie & Benny’s, have been forced to close branches. However, some chains, like Greggs, have managed to persevere and even announce expansion plans.
