Another Closure in the Coffee Chain

A popular Costa Coffee branch in Edinburgh is set to close its doors for the final time. The store on Bruntsfield Place will shut down on Valentine's Day, marking the 15th Costa Coffee branch closure in the past year.

Confirmed Closure

The closure was confirmed by Costa back in December, but the reality is sinking in for residents as they countdown to the final hours of the store. A Costa spokesperson apologized for any inconvenience caused and mentioned that customers can still enjoy their favorite Costa coffee at a nearby store on Morningside Road.

Mixed Reactions from Locals

Locals took to social media to express their reactions to the closure. Some were disappointed, citing the busy atmosphere and their preference for Costa. However, others saw it as an opportunity for independent coffee shops to thrive in the city.

Challenges for Food and Drink Chains

Food and drink chains, in general, have been facing challenges in recent months. The cost of living has led to fewer people dining out, and businesses have struggled to recover from the pandemic. This has resulted in the closure of branches for big-name brands like Wetherspoons and Frankie & Benny's.

High Street Closures

The closure of Costa Coffee is part of a wider trend of high street closures. Many retailers have been feeling the squeeze since the pandemic, with shoppers cutting back on spending due to the soaring cost of living. Online shopping and high energy costs have also contributed to the struggles of high street shops.

New Openings on the High Street

Despite the challenges, some shops are bucking the trend and opening new locations. Primark, B&M, Sephora, Avon, Costco, and Greggs are among the brands planning to open new branches in the UK.
