Wilko has announced the reopening dates for its new stores as it prepares to return to the high street.

Returning to the high street

Shoppers will soon be able to browse in beloved discount store Wilko, with five stores set to open before Christmas.

Wilko has revealed the exact dates that its new stores will open

The Wilko name and intellectual property were acquired by rival discount store The Range earlier this year.

CDS Superstores, which operates The Range and Wilko, recently announced that it will be relaunching the chain in England, Scotland, and Wales.

Locations and opening dates

The company has now confirmed the locations and opening dates for its first three stores:

  • Plymouth: December 1
  • Exeter: December 1
  • Luton: December 8

Additional store launches and re-openings will be announced in the coming year.

New job opportunities

Each store is planning to hire up to 80 local team members.

Earlier this year, nearly 10,000 staff were made redundant when 400 Wilko stores closed.

Alex Simpkin, CEO of CDS Superstores, said, "We’re proud to confirm we’ll be re-introducing the brand to high streets in Plymouth, Exeter, and Luton in the coming weeks. We’re also glad to be bringing employment opportunities to these towns and helping local families and communities have easy access to all the everyday home and garden items they need once again."

Product range and online shopping

The new stores will offer a range of value items including cleaning and household, decorating and DIY, garden and outdoor, homeware, pets, storage, and seasonal items.

Customers will also have the option to purchase items from the wilko.com range for home delivery using in-store terminals.

Wilko.com returned earlier this month under The Range's ownership, and Wilko-branded items are now available in The Range stores.

Concessions have also opened inside The Range's 210 shops, selling popular Wilko products.

Previous challenges and new ownership

Wilko faced financial difficulties and entered administration earlier this year, leading to the closure of all 400 stores.

Rival chains Poundland and B&M stepped in to purchase some of the stores.

Poundland acquired 71 Wilko stores, while B&M agreed to buy up to 51 locations.

The brand and intellectual property of Wilko were sold to The Range in September, saving 36 jobs.

Home Bargains and Dunelm also offered new roles to Wilko staff after the retailer collapsed.
