Frosties sweets were a beloved treat that experienced a surge in popularity during the 1980s. Fans have been clamoring for their return ever since they were discontinued, even going so far as to create a dedicated Facebook page. Let's take a closer look at these Barratt's favorites and why they disappeared.

What Were Frosties Sweets?

Frosties sweets were round, cola-flavored candies with a hard exterior and a chewy center. Initially, they were individually wrapped in foil to prevent them from sticking together. Later, they were produced in a tube wrapped in foil, similar to other Barratt's sweets at the time. These treats were not only loved for their flavor but also for their affordability. In the 1980s, you could get a whole bag of Frosties sweets for just 5p.

Why and When Were Frosties Discontinued?

In 2015, Barratt decided to discontinue Frosties sweets, much to the disappointment of fans. The exact reason for their discontinuation is unknown, but some speculate that their high sugar content may have played a role in the decision. It's possible that the search for a lower sugar alternative proved challenging.

Are There Any Frosties Alternatives?

Although Frosties sweets are no longer available in their original form, eagle-eyed shoppers have spotted them in mixed bags of Barratt's sweets. One Home Bargains shopper shared their find on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, which garnered over 250 likes and 140 comments. The lollies can be purchased for £1.09 at Home Bargains or found in multi-pack bags at PoundLand. Some Brits also suggest that cola cubes are a similar alternative, which can be bought in multi-packs on Amazon or in classic sweet shops.

While Frosties sweets may be a thing of the past, there are always new and nostalgic treats to discover. B&M recently released Space Babies sweets, inspired by Barratt's popular Wham bars, and McVities brought back its white chocolate digestive biscuits after a nearly 20-year absence from supermarket shelves. However, fans of Tooty Frooties and the Nutty bar may need to come to terms with the fact that these iconic treats may never make a comeback.
