With more than a third of Brits avoiding alcohol during the festive season, there are plenty of alternatives to popular drinks like prosecco, sparkling wine, and champagne. We tested some of the most popular no or low-alcohol fizz alternatives sold in supermarkets and compared them based on taste and value for money. Here's how they scored:

Freixenet 0.0% Alcohol Free Sparkling

Price: £4.75 for 75cl (Tesco)

This alcohol-free sparkling wine had a dry taste similar to champagne, making it a great replacement for the real thing at Christmas or New Year celebrations. Despite its weird plastic smell, it was the most authentic alcohol-free fizz we tried, but it was also the most expensive.

Asda Extra Special Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc Low Alcohol Wine

Price: £4 for 75cl

This low-alcohol fizz based on Sauvignon Blanc had a high wine content at 91%, but it tasted weak. We found it similar to a watered-down fizzy apple drink and didn't feel it was worth the money at £4 a bottle.

Nozeco Spumante Alcohol Free

Price: £3.50 for 75cl (Asda)

The Nozeco had a strong flowery, botanical smell and tasted citrusy and floral. It wasn't like alcoholic sparkling wine and wouldn't be a good replacement for prosecco or champagne. At £3.50 per bottle, it's middle-of-the-range on price.

Sainsbury's Sparkling Alcohol Free

Price: £3.25 for 75cl

This sparkling drink from Sainsbury's was like a fizzy grape juice. It was drinkable, but it didn't resemble sparkling wine. It was one of the cheaper options we tried and contained 89.5% real wine in its ingredients.

Aldi Zerozecco Sparkling White Alcohol Free

Price: £2.99 for 75cl

The Aldi prosecco was the cheapest we tried, but it had an artificial taste of grapes and a strong tropical flavor. It wasn't a good replacement for the alcoholic version. Wine only made up 70% of the ingredients.

Tesco Low Alcohol Sparkling Wine

Price: £3.25 for 75cl

The Tesco version was really drinkable with a sweet and fizzy taste. It was like drinking a posh sparkling grape juice. Although the wine content wasn't declared, it is made from Sauvignon Blanc, making it more authentic than other alcohol-free drinks. It was one of the cheaper bottles we tried and offered good value for money.
