A man in Manchester is set to make £1,000 after discovering a rare N64 gaming controller in his loft. Liam Clousdale stumbled upon the accessory after more than two decades, and it is now expected to fetch a significant sum at auction.

Accidental Discovery in Whitefield Home

Liam, a 39-year-old plumber, accidentally found the Nintendo 64 gaming controller in his home in Whitefield.

A Valuable Rarity

It turned out that Liam's lucky discovery was a valuable rare special edition controller. This particular controller, known as the Nintendo 64 Foxdata Silver Leopard, was released by Foxdata in the late 1990s. It was part of a range that included three other designs: Desert Storm, Chrome Leopard, Red Rain, and Purple Forest.

A Sentimental Gift

Liam received the controller as a birthday gift from his parents in 1998. He recalls seeing advertisements for it in the official Nintendo magazine at the time.

A Friend's Insights

It wasn't until one of Liam's friends pointed out that a similar Foxdata controller had sold for a decent amount of money that Liam realized its potential value. He then retrieved the controller from a box in his loft and contacted auction house Hansons.

Retro N64 controller up for auction

A Potential Windfall

The experts at Hansons Auctioneers estimate that Liam's Nintendo 64 Foxdata Silver Leopard could sell for £1,000 at auction. They believe there are only a few hundred of these controllers in existence, and Liam's might be one of less than 200.

A Piece of Gaming History

Hansons auctioneer David Wilson-Turner noted that the Nintendo video game franchise has grown stronger with each console release, and the Foxdata controllers have become increasingly sought after in the video game market. This rare find presents a unique opportunity for a Nintendo memorabilia collector to acquire a rare and hard-to-find item.

Liam expressed his surprise at the controller's potential value and stated that he is happy to sell it to a proper retro collector.
