Tesco Metro Store in Carlisle Closes Permanently

A popular Tesco Metro branch located in Carlisle city centre, Cumbria, sadly announced they were pulling their shutters down for good. Devastated shoppers were shocked when the industry giant announced that their convenient local would be closing on Saturday. A Tesco spokesperson said: "We have taken the difficult decision to close our Victoria Viaduct store later this year. We serve a fantastic community in Carlisle and remain committed to the town. We are actively working on plans to open a new Express store locally."

Disappointed Shoppers Express Frustration

Customers took to social media to express their disappointment about the closure. One customer wrote on Facebook: "God I can remember when we did the weekly shop in there. Way before all the out of town supermarkets. It will be a loss for those that live in town or close by." Another frustrated resident commented, "Yet another store being taken out of the town centre. Alright for those who have cars isn’t it?"

Search for New Store Location

Tesco confirmed that the company is actively looking for another site in the area for a new store. This decision comes as hundreds of high street shops are permanently closing their doors. Other popular retailers, including homeware shop England At Home and fashion brand Crew Clothing, have also recently closed down their stores.

High Street Closures Continue

Several other chains, such as M&Co, Paperchase, and Habitat, are also closing down stores this year. Argos, owned by Sainsbury's, is cutting dozens of stores as well. The retail industry continues to face challenges as consumers' shopping habits shift and online competition increases.
