A MUM and daughter team turn old school buses into stunning tiny homes

Megan and Lisa Donahue, from North Carolina, have revealed how they transformed a school bus into an incredible tiny home after a family tragedy. The project began as a way for this mother-daughter duo to spend time together, but it quickly took on a much deeper meaning.

Inspired by the loss of her little brother, Megan started this hobby

In 2015, Megan's younger brother Michael tragically passed away in a devastating road accident. However, Michael's love for nature and his desire to live in a bus inspired Megan to embark on this unique journey. She decided to convert her first school bus into a tiny home, which she affectionately named Gus.

Turning small spaces into cozy and spacious homes

With just about 75 sq ft of living space in each bus, Megan faces the challenge of making them feel spacious. However, she has managed to tackle this challenge head-on and successfully creates cozy and comfortable homes.

Building a business and honoring Michael's memory

Megan's mom, Lisa, also got involved in the project, and together, they turned their hobby into a successful business. They strive to honor Michael's memory and spirit of fun through their work. The buses are sold once completed, but they are selective about who they sell to, as each vehicle represents a piece of Michael.

A reminder to cherish family time

For Lisa and Megan, this endeavor is not just about creating stunning tiny homes. They want to remind families of the importance of spending time together. Lisa says, "Our main reason why we're doing this, too, is we want families to know how important it is that they spend time together – because you literally don't know if you have tomorrow."

The gift of happiness and success

Megan considers the opportunity to transform school buses into tiny homes as a gift. She claims that she could not imagine her life without this passion and is determined to continue as long as it brings her happiness. What started as a personal endeavor has now grown into a successful business.

Preserving Michael's positive outlook

With each bus they convert, Lisa and Megan strive to keep Michael's positive outlook on life in mind. Through their work, they hope to inspire others and spread joy.
