Run down buildings in Caerphilly offer a challenge for keen fixer-uppers

Three cottages in a remote village in Caerphilly, South Wales could be yours for just £100. The Wesley Buildings, as they are known, have a £0 reserve price and all three can be bought for the minimum starting bid of £100 at auction, which amounts to roughly £33 each. However, these cottages require a significant amount of work before they are habitable.

A blank canvas for developers with an intriguing history

Gemma Vaughan of Paul Fosh Auctions explained that the Wesley Buildings originally consisted of three small cottages and have a rich history. The site was purchased by the current vendor, a carpenter, in 1979. His great grandfather and mother were born there, and his great grandfather worked in the tin mine in Machen. Although the cottages are in a derelict condition, they present a unique opportunity for developers, subject to planning and the removal of undergrowth. Please note that the cottages have not been internally inspected.

A challenge for fixer-uppers in a desirable location

The Wesley Buildings are located in the sought-after village of Machen, just three miles east of Caerphilly and near Newport. The cottages are situated in the Caerphilly Borough within the historic boundaries of old Monmouthshire. Machen offers stunning views of the Rhymney River and the towering presence of Mynydd Machen (Machen Mountain). Please note that the cottages are in a derelict condition and have not been internally inspected.

Opportunity to purchase in the UK's cheapest housing market area

County Durham, known for its low mortgage rates, is home to one of the UK's cheapest housing market areas. While the affordable prices are a draw for potential homeowners, locals have expressed frustration with rowdy revellers and drug users in the area.

Affordable coastal homes with low deposit requirements

If you're looking to buy a house, we've found seven homes on the coast where you'll only need a £7,500 deposit or less. Increased mortgage rates have led to a drop in prices, making it more affordable for potential buyers.

The cottages, along with ninety other properties, will be sold online at the next Paul Fosh Auctions sale. The auction will start on Tuesday, August 29 at 12 noon and end on Thursday, August 31 at 5pm.
