Shoppers devastated as popular store in St Helens set to close

Shoppers in St Helens are reeling from the news that a discount chain with 110 stores nationwide is closing its beloved branch in The Hardshaw shopping centre by the end of May. This closure is part of a wave of store shut-downs hitting the high street, signaling tough times for retail.

One Beyond Retail CEO comments on closure

Christopher James Edwards, CEO at One Beyond Retail Ltd, explained, "One Beyond will be closing our popular location in The Hardshaw Centre at the end of May due to the shopping centre’s redevelopment." Despite the closure, the company plans to open a new branch in St Helens and expand with 20 new stores across the UK by the end of 2024.

Britain's retail apocalypse

Many high street brands are facing closures, with Peacocks, Boots, Game, M&S, The Body Shop, and Ted Baker among those shuttering stores. Boots, for example, is set to close 300 stores over the next year as part of a brand evolution. The Body Shop is also closing half of its 198 stores, and Ted Baker has already shut down several locations after filing for administration.
