Despite the challenges posed by the cost-of-living crisis, Mr. Sajjad stands by his decision to close the shop, stating that the pandemic brought his family closer together and that he has no regrets.
A Generous Initiative
In an effort to boost morale during the pandemic, Poundbuster launched a special discount scheme for customers aged over 60. Elderly customers were given a 10% discount on Tuesdays, which Mr. Sajjad believed would bring smiles to their faces. He emphasized that the initiative was not about making money but about giving back to the community.
Additionally, Poundbuster played an active role in supporting the most vulnerable members of the community throughout the pandemic. The family provided assistance by giving away items and offering delivery services to the elderly. They also collected donations to support those affected by the war in Ukraine.
Future Plans and New Beginnings
With Poundbuster closing its doors, Mr. Sajjad is ready for a career change. He plans to become a freelance life coach. Meanwhile, plans have been submitted to transform the shop unit into a one-bedroom home. The proposal includes converting the shop floor into a living room and kitchen, with the first floor serving as a bedroom. The Oldham Council has approved the application and plans to locate the new home near a bus route.
While Poundbuster's closure marks the end of an era, it is clear that the shop has left a lasting impact on the Shaw community. The owner's dedication to serving the locals and giving back will be remembered as Poundbuster transitions into a new chapter.
