Russell & Bromley Store in Tunbridge Wells to Shut Doors on November 11

A popular shoe shop chain with over 30 branches is preparing to close its sites in just a matter of days. The Russell & Bromley store in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, will be shutting its doors on November 11, leaving shoppers with limited time to say their goodbyes. The closure is part of the company's strategy to rethink its locations due to the changing retail landscape, which has been heavily impacted by the pandemic.

Relocation Plans in the Works

Russell & Bromley's chief executive, Andrew Bromley, has stated that the closure of the Tunbridge Wells store is not the end for the brand in the area. The company is actively looking for an improved location and will update the public in due course. The current store is situated near the railway station and has large windows that attract shoppers, making it a prime location for the brand.

High Street Closures

Russell & Bromley is not the only high street store facing closures. Boots, B&M, Homebase, Cineworld, Clarks, M&S, and Tesco are among the retailers closing a number of stores before the end of the year. The cost of living crisis, inflation, and energy costs have all contributed to the struggles faced by retailers. The British Retail Consortium reported that the UK lost 6,000 stores in the past five years.

Store Openings Bring Hope

While many stores are closing, there are also retailers expanding this year. Discount retailer Costco plans to open 14 more warehouses in the UK over the next two years. Bonmarche is opening at least seven new stores after filing for administration in 2019, and The White Company is set to open new stores in October and November. Additionally, bakery chains such as Wenzels, Greggs, Dunkin' Donuts, and The Cornish Bakery are all in the process of expanding in the UK.
