Sales of Men’s Underwear Soar While Women’s Knickers Take a Dive

Sales of men's Y-fronts and boxers have seen a significant increase, according to a recent study. Analysts have delved into Brits' spending habits and discovered that sales of men's underwear rose by an impressive 40% year-on-year. On the other hand, sales of women's knickers have taken a dip, experiencing a 37% decrease, as reported by MoneySuperMarket's Household Money Index.

Rise of Men's Underwear

Over the past 12 months, sales of men's underwear have rocketed by 40%. The UK underwear market, which is valued at approximately £170 million per year, has seen a surge in sales specifically within the men's category. On average, men own between ten to fifteen pairs of underwear.

Decline of Women's Knickers

On the other hand, the market for women's knickers has seen a significant decrease, with sales falling by 37% in the past year. This stark contrast in sales indicates a possible shift in consumer preferences.

Spending Habits and Personal Care

The study also uncovered some interesting trends in consumer behavior. It revealed a 36% rise in hair appointments, indicating a renewed focus on personal grooming. Beauty salon visits also saw an increase of 32%, suggesting that individuals are investing more in self-care. Additionally, champagne consumption experienced a significant boost, with a 33% increase.

Brits' Monthly Expenses

According to the study, the average Brit spends around 70% of their income on monthly bills, such as energy, mortgage, or rent payments. This amounts to just over £1,400. However, for 18 to 34-year-olds, this percentage rises to 77%, equating to just under £1,800 a month.
