Household Support Fund (HSF) in Danger

Thousands of households in the UK that qualify for free vouchers through the Household Support Fund (HSF) may be at risk of losing them. The HSF is a cost of living boost worth £842 million. Residents in Eastleigh are being urged not to miss out on this benefit.

How it Works

The HSF is a central pot of money provided by the government and distributed to councils in England. Each council then shares their portion with residents in need. The type and amount of assistance you receive depends on where you live. Generally, help is offered to those on a low income or benefits like Universal Credit.

What You'll Receive

Qualifying individuals in Eastleigh borough will automatically receive instructions on how to obtain their vouchers in mid-December. Working-age recipients will receive a letter with a QR code, while pensioners will receive a physical voucher. The council's website states that approximately 5,000 households will qualify for a £50 voucher, while another 550 will qualify for an £80 voucher.

Don't Miss Out!

If you qualify for the HSF, make sure to keep an eye on your mailbox and avoid throwing away any correspondence from the council. Any unused or returned vouchers will be given to the Eastleigh pantry for their use.

Who Else Can Get Help?

Even if you don't reside in Eastleigh, you may still be eligible for assistance. Those on benefits such as Universal Credit or Income Support can typically receive help through the HSF. Contact your local council to find out what aid is available in your area. You can use the government's locator tool on their website to determine your local council by entering your postcode.

Additional Financial Support

Besides the Household Support Fund, there are other forms of financial assistance available. Millions of pensioners are eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment, which is being distributed from November 1 to the end of December. To qualify for this payment, you must have been born on or before September 25, 1957, and have lived in the UK for at least one day during the week of September 18 to 24, 2023 (known as the qualifying week). This payment has been made available by the central government in response to the cost of living crisis.
