Thousands of Brits who receive 12 different benefits, including Universal Credit, will be paid early next week, according to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Payments are being made ahead of schedule to account for bank holidays and weekends during the festive season. For example, if your payment is due on December 23, 24, 25, or 26, you will receive it on December 22 instead. Similarly, if your payment is due on December 30, 31, or January 1, it will be deposited on December 29.

Which Benefits are Affected?

The early payments apply to the following benefits:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer's Allowance
  • Child Benefit
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Jobseekers Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • State Pension
  • Tax credits (such as Working Tax Credit)
  • Universal Credit

Will the Amount Change?

The amount you receive should not change, unless there has been a change in your circumstances. It is important to budget accordingly, as you will have to wait extra days until your next payment date.

What if the Payment is Late?

If you are expecting a payment and it is not paid on time, double-check the date you are usually paid and contact your bank. If necessary, contact the DWP for further assistance or to submit a complaint about unpaid benefits.

Other Winter Support Available

In addition to early benefit payments, there are other forms of support available for households during the winter months. Cold weather payments of up to £25 are being triggered in hundreds of postcodes across the country. Eligible households receive the cash directly into their bank accounts within 14 days. Furthermore, millions of people are entitled to receive winter fuel payments of up to £600. If you haven't received your payment by January 26, 2024, contact the office that pays your benefits. Finally, additional support is offered by councils in the UK through the Household Support Fund.
