A couple from Warrington, Cheshire, Susan and Colin Tallon, had an incredible stroke of luck when they won £60,000 on the People's Postcode Lottery and were able to double their winnings. Both Susan and Colin had Postcode Lottery tickets, meaning their family is taking home a whopping £62,500. Their win came shortly after learning that their daughter is expecting her first child, adding to the excitement.
A Pleasant Surprise
Susan, 68, was taken by surprise when the lottery knocked on her door with the huge sum, while Colin was at a doctor's appointment. Upon seeing her cheque, she exclaimed, "Oh my god, help me. I'm having kittens." Colin came home to the bombshell news that they both won the enormous prize. He said, "We've had some more good news today as well. Our daughter has just told us she's having a baby. I thought we'll never be grandparents. I always wanted to be a grandparent but now it's come true."
A Helping Hand from Above
Colin believes that Susan's mother, who they light a candle for every year on her birthday, may have had a helping hand in their incredible day. He said, "It's her mother's birthday. It's uncanny. She must have done this."
A Love Story that Spans Over 45 Years
The retired couple's love story began in Susan's native South Africa. Colin was working in South Africa for a couple of years when he met Susan at the hotel reception where she worked. He was completely smitten and soon after told her he'd "buy her a ticket" to come back to England. Twelve weeks after their first meeting, the couple were married.
Planning to Celebrate
The Tallons are now planning to extend their upcoming holiday to celebrate their win. Colin said, "We're booking an extra week in Benidorm now."
