EASTER is finally here with a long weekend break and spring celebrations.

For many of us – kids and adults alike – it’s an excuse to indulge our sweet tooth.

Several of the Easter eggs we tested scored top marks

We put Easter eggs to the test to find the best across a range of categories.

Of the supermarket own brand chocs there was one clear winner, while Cadbury took the top spot out of the brand name eggs.

While luxury eggs can set you back nearly £100, it was a pair of £12 high street treats that cam out on top.

Meanwhile you can spend as little as £1.25 on a Easter egg for kids and get good quality chocolate that will keep them happy.

HOAR’s Lynsey Hope put dozens of Easter eggs top the test – here are her winners.

Best supermarket own brand Easter eggs

Lynsey’s supermarket favourite was from Asda

Supermarkets have brought out fancy eggs to rival brand names.

Lynsey put a selection of them to the test to see how they fared for taste and value.

The winner scored ten out of ten for both, was beautifully presented and doesn’t feel budget despite being the cheapest cost-wise per 100g.

“Delicious,” Lynsey concluded. “It had a lovely sweet, salty balance and I couldn’t help but go back in for more.”

  • Lidl Deluxe Chocolate Marbled Egg, £6.99 – 3/10
  • Aldi Moser Roth Milk Chocolate Egg and Luxurious Truffles, £5.99 – 6/10
  • M&S Food Extremely Chocolatey Giant Hot Cross Bun Egg, £9 – 7/10

Check out what Lynsey’s thoughts on all the supermarket’s Easter eggs.

Remember when choosing your eggs this Easter to compare the cost per 100g so you know you’re getting value for money.

Lynsey compared this for all her taste tests to come up with her scores.

Best brand Easter eggs

All the branded eggs were rated highly

You can get Easter egg versions of loads of chocolate favourites, from Bounty to Maltesers.

Many come with a classic egg and a choc bar or two on the side.

All our branded eggs scored highly – none below seven out of 10.

And three were just one point behind the winner which scored the maximum of ten points.

You’re unlikely to go wrong with any of these Easter treats, but Lynsey rated the winner for its thicker milk chocolate that was creamy and more-ish – “yummy”.
