The government's counter-extremism tsar, Robin Simcox, has issued a warning that Iran has the means to incite violence on British streets. Simcox also criticized prominent figures in the UK for fueling Hamas ideology by praising its leaders and excusing its barbarism.

Iran: A Serious Threat with the Capacity for Attacks and Extremism

Simcox specifically singled out Iran, the sponsor of Gaza-based terrorists, as a significant threat capable of inciting attacks and spreading extremism within the UK. The Iranian regime has openly celebrated the recent invasion on Israel, its sworn enemy.

"Confronting Reality": Tackling Home-Based Extremism Risks

As the Home Office's advisor on tackling extremism, Simcox called on politicians to confront the reality of home-based risks following a series of anti-Israel protests. He emphasized that support for Hamas does not carry the same stigma as support for other terrorist groups, and that attacks on Israel are sometimes celebrated rather than condemned.

Criticism of Hamas and the Imposition of a "Blasphemy Code"

Simcox also criticized the support for Hamas among those in positions of prominence, citing former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's reference to Hamas as his "friends" in 2009. He further expressed concern about attempts to impose a de facto blasphemy code that restricts criticism of religious prophets.

Additional Concerns: Islamist Ideology and the Extreme Right and Left

In addition to highlighting the ongoing challenge of Islamist ideology, Simcox also raised concerns about the extreme right and left. He used his first remarks in the role to sound the alarm on these issues.
