Royal Support for Climate Change

As world leaders gather for the COP28 climate change summit, King Charles will lead a powerful message on green issues. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak praised the monarch for his longstanding commitment to environmental causes and highlighted the significance of his presence at the conference.

Leadership on Display

Speaking to reporters on his way to the COP28 conference, Sunak emphasized the UK's dedication to tackling climate change. He mentioned that the presence of King Charles, himself, and Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron demonstrated the country's strong leadership in addressing this global issue.

Practical and Balanced Approach

Sunak defended the government's decision to delay the ban on sales of new petrol and diesel cars until 2035 and modify plans to remove polluting gas and oil boilers. He argued that achieving climate change targets, such as Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, should not burden the public. The PM stated that the UK's transition to renewables would still involve the use of fossil fuels, alongside substantial investments in renewable energy sources.

UK's Commitment to Global Climate Action

In addition to the King's call to arms, the UK government announced a commitment of £1.6 billion for international climate finance projects throughout the summit. This investment reflects the country's dedication to tackling climate change both domestically and globally.
