NIGEL Farage has lashed out at NatWest – after they claimed his bank account was shut down for not having enough cash in, rather than political reasons.
The ex-Brexit party and former UKIP boss insisted he had enough money to open an account with the posh bank Coutts, owned by NatWest.

But he was now told he doesn’t “meet the threshold” of borrowing at least £1million – or holding £3million in savings – and has to close it within two months.
He blamed them for dubbing him as a “politically exposed person” and said it had never been a problem before.
The Brexiteer has said he has been turned down by seven other lenders when he went elsewhere – citing his political public profile.
Sources close to Coutts went on the attack via the BBC, insisting it was a “commercial decision” – as they risked breaking GDPR rules by briefing the corporation on his personal account details.
He’s now been offered a standard account with NatWest instead – but only after he went public with the row.
The former leader told Radio 4’s World at One: “I’ve got more money sitting in my current account than I should have. Perhaps I’m stupid leaving it there in cash so they can make a lot of money out of it.
“I’ve been with them for over a decade and at the moment I have more money sitting on current account than I’ve had for most of that period of time.”
He’s now also weighing up leaving the country and taking his money abroad, he revealed.
Mr Farage added: “I’m not just fighting this for me. I’m fighting this for many, many thousands of people who have had their accounts closed over the last few years’
“It should be a fundamental right for everybody to have a bank account.”
The bank declined to comment.
