Confusion Over Voting on Disposable Vape Ban

More than 20 serving ministers may refuse to vote for Rishi Sunak's smoking ban, according to a report. The ban, which would outlaw anyone born after 2009 from legally buying cigarettes, is scheduled for a free vote in the coming weeks. There is also uncertainty surrounding the vote on a total ban on disposable vapes, with Downing Street retracting previous claims that it would not be whipped.

Ministers Express Concerns About the Smoking Ban

Senior Tories, including former Prime Minister Liz Truss, have publicly expressed concerns about the smoking ban proposed by Rishi Sunak. In total, over 50 Tory MPs are reportedly against the policy. However, the ban is expected to pass into law with the support of the Labour Party.

British Vape Trade Association Warns of Negative Consequences

The British Vape Trade Association has warned that the smoking ban could drive one million people to the black market and increase smoking numbers. Shares in vaping firms have already tumbled in response to the proposed ban, which is expected to be implemented by the end of the year.
