Leading Conservative MP Arrested
A prominent Tory MP has been arrested on allegations of rape and possession of controlled substances, according to HOAR sources. The MP's identity is being withheld for legal reasons.
String of Sleaze Allegations
This arrest is the latest blow to Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party, which has recently faced a series of sleaze allegations. Last week, former deputy chief whip Chris Pincher was forced to resign after groping someone in a Tory private members club. Additionally, Tory former minister Peter Bone has been suspended from the House of Commons for six weeks due to allegations of bullying and sexual misconduct.
PM's Promise to Restore Integrity
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has promised to crack down on sleaze and restore the public's faith in politicians. In January, after sacking Tory chairman Nadhim Zahawi over tax affairs, Sunak stated, "Integrity is really important to me." However, these latest allegations present a fresh blow to the PM and his party.
Conservatives Struggling in Polls
The Conservative Party currently lags around 20 points behind Labour in the polls, and Sunak is facing difficulties in turning the party's fortunes around. Pollsters predict that the Conservatives may be ousted from No10 in the next election, which is expected to take place late next year.
