MP Urges Police Investigation

A senior MP has called for the Post Office to face a police investigation over allegations that the company was aware of flaws in the Horizon IT system. Ex-Minister Kevan Jones highlighted a document showing that bosses and legal chiefs were aware of concerns as far back as 2017.

Postmasters Blamed

Despite the revelations, postmasters were initially blamed for issues related to the IT system. Post Office boss Paula Vennells reportedly knew of problems with Horizon two years before denying any issues to MPs.

Legal Battles and Public Funds

Nine hundred sub-postmasters faced prosecution between 1999 and 2015 due to the faulty IT system, leading to a legal battle where 555 sub-postmasters won their case in 2018-2019. However, a draft dossier suggests that the Post Office was aware of the system's issues in 2017 but continued to defend the case using £100 million of public funds.

Call for Justice

MP Kevan Jones, a member of the Horizon Compensation Advisory Board, criticized the use of public funds against innocent individuals and called for a police investigation. He emphasized the importance of holding accountable those responsible for the injustice faced by postmasters.

Post Office Boss's Knowledge

The scandal deepened as it was revealed that Post Office boss Paula Vennells was informed of Horizon system issues in 2013, contradicting her later claims to MPs that there were no issues with the system. Calls have been made to focus the investigation on these new findings.
